I started this Tropical Fish quilt for the July blog hop, but I wasn't able to finish it before my post date. Since then, I have finished quilting and binding it, and it is now ready for its grand reveal.

Very interesting design.
Looks like a Christmas morning with wrapping paper decorating the lounge room floor.

I rather like the first design, though I think I would like it better on the floor than on a bed.
Very interesting.
What if I change the light fabrics to dark and vice versa, and change a few blocks.
The design is much lighter, but with dark lacey bits.
What if I add four dark blocks ….
Interesting, but not better than it was.
I think the last one is my favourite design this week, but there are many more designs in this project file for future reference.
Seeing them all together makes it easy to see the changes I ...

The colours are a bit washed out, but I like them.
I like the mixture of pieced and applique blocks in the first design more then the pieced only collection of blocks in the second.

Though I have used just two fabrics, this would work well with dark and light fabric scraps if they are well sorted, and all the medium fabrics ae saved for another project. Using one multicoloured fabric is my way of making a quick scrappy quilt in Electric Quilt, instead of using 35 dark and 43 light fabrics and mixing them up in five or six colourations of each and every block, which in this case are 9 patch blocks.
If I was to make these into real quilts instead of virtual, I would possibly use just one plain background fabric ...

Pretty colours which are more often seen in floral designs.
I like them both … no favourite today.

Not so basic piecing, with sharp points, curved seams and set in corners … something I would do by hand, along with the applique.
Second design is back to basics, but I prefer the first one.

The first design today features four examples of how sometimes putting four blocks together creates a whole new block. I didn’t know it would happen, and it only worked because the four blocks together are separated by background fabric.
I wonder if there are other blocks which would work together in the same way?
I love the second design too.

Middle of another week already!
Every week I show some Log Cabin designs, and pretty much every week I think of something different I should try. This week I am thinking that I really should start a new file with just the basic Log Cabin blocks but with the dark fabrics on the opposite side of the block.
So you can guess what I will be doing during at least on coffee break today.
But first, I have to concentrate on today’s post for you to enjoy during your coffee break.
I think I like the last one best ...

Love the second design!
Note that the block used to create the designs in the centre is featured in the border of the last design. Easy to pick it in the last design, but well hidden in the other two.

Also intricate and interesting, and on point too, but I like the first one better.

One block design, but using the background fabric to hide some pieces of the full design.
I am not a fan of quilting in the ditch, but it would work for me in this sort of design.
I like the first design, but love the second one!
Just one block can be so versatile!

My favourite for the day is the first.
I love playing with these blocks as it is always interesting to see what happens with the light coloured blocks with the curved lines of little squares or rectangles. With all light fabrics those squares would look like little banners tangled up in spider webs. Could work well with all dark fabrics with white … it might look like webs!
Very interesting …
…. better with a dark centre.
Dark centre works better in the second designs too!
That is all for this week … more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

… but I love the second design.
Designs like this make me wonder why so many quilts are made using just one block design, when mixing up some blocks creates some stunning designs, and it is not a boring slog like making somewhere between 12 and 50 identical blocks for a quilt.

Small blocks in these designs, so there are a lot of them in large quilts.
I think I prefer the first one, but it is a close contest between these two!
